Looking for a new Knife or two...

I almost always carry some sort of a folder for daily use... Come in handy all the time, but it seems I lost or misplaced mine a few days ago...

I don't even remember what I paid for it...

It was a lower end Gerber, something like this...

http://www.gerbergear.com/product.php?model=7157

So, I guess I'll pick up another foler and maybe a fixed blade...

Any suggestions???

For both, I want something thats fairy decent quality and usable, I frequently use mine for cutting, rope, phone/Network Cables, prying stuff sometimes, sometimes use as a screwdriver if it fits, etc.. Whatever... It should hold an edge well and be able to be re-sharpend as well...

well my suggestion since one is more utilityid suggest the other be double bladed ive found double bladed knives very useful sometimes, and as one side dulls alittle just flip it.
i aswell carry a small folder at work, very useful.
When nephews or any young teens get their first car in my family i always give them one of those utility pliers things for their car, great gifts.

What knife would be recommended for a lock blade that was very flat and light weight but with a very strong linear lock, must be sharpenable and hold that edge.

Smullen I have to find another as well --Mine is to dang heavy and big for day to day pocket wear.

I like the Spydercos as well. They are good quality without breaking the bank (50-75 bucks rather than some of the other high end stuff for 150+), ultra slim, light, and have a good lock. I have one for my 'dress' knife.

I'm not sure of the terminology, but I don't trust those locks that are inside the handle, where the blade closes. I like the ones that are on the back of the handle.

For everyday carry, I use an Eye Brand trapper, two (non locking) blades. I carry it in a scabbard on my hip. I like having one blade for opening cans or whatever, and another which stays razor sharp at all times, and is only used for very specific purposes. (Think vet surgery).

I use a knife a lot more than the average knife owner, and I'm pretty sure that most offices wouldn't be very comfortable with a knife carried openly on the hip, so a lockblade folder is probably more suitable for the average guy.

If you want to break the bank, check out Strider. (Think Homer Simpson "donuts")

For a fixed-blade, I'd recommend a KA-BAR. I have the classic USMC 12-inch fighting knife and also the smaller 9 or so inch version of the same. Very tough knives, hold their edge well. You can dig a hole with them, bust up ice, and cut up just about anything.

Email me for all your knife needs.I`m a member of bladeforums with an extensive zero negative feedback and a lifelong knifeknut.I started selling on ebay too.PS>I prefer fixed blades because there is no mechanism to break and to fumble with WSHTF>

I have had the same folding/locking BUCK knife on my hip for the last 20 years. Best knife I have ever had by far. I dont know what BUCK is doing these days but these older buck knives are excellent, good quality product.

Looks just like this here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Buck-Knife-112-U...QQcmdZViewItem

I wouldnt trade that knife for any other. I know some guys like that space age polymer stuff, but that old Buck has been real good to me over the years.

For a FIXED BLADE, definitely a K-BAR, hands down.

easy answer. go down to walmart and get some thing for $10. I have lost plenty of knives and what's the point of spending on them.

I will say apropos of the other suggestions however, that I lost a spyderco in the yard, it sat there all winter in the snow and mud, I found it come spring and there was but a teensy weensy lil spot on it, and I carry it almost every day.

also, I had a SOG knife that the lock broke on, wouldnt lock anymore, and I sent it back like 9 years after I bought it. they didnt even stock that kind anymore so they sent me an upgrade to a better knife for free.

fantastic companies, those two, and if you're not into the cheapos from walmart, patronize them or even cold steel another fantastic vendor. '

but I go with the cheapos anymore.

Question for those who know. I have a Benchmade 814sbt Mini afck-II that is about 10 years old and is nearing the end of it's well used life. I would like to purchase a new one but, this model is no longer made. Any ideas on where I might find this lock back? I have looked on Ebay but like everything else there, when one pops up it goes way over reasonable price. Any help would be appreciated.

Get one with Axis lock,go to bladeforums, register and place a wanted ad.It`s definitely better to get a small custom FB with a carbon or D2/A2 blade and a micarta full tang handle,Bark River makes awesome models in A2,JohnGreco makes great little FB`s in 52100.

The best folder in the world, get the same model on ebay for under 100.00$,built like a tank, frame lock, the liners are carbon steel as well,VERY hard to open at first, needs to be broken-in for a few days of non-stop opening and closing+oil, after that it`ll serve you for a lifetime.

Yes but the maintenance on the Italian model is steep and they don't hold up well to being used often (think Ferrari), I much prefer Norwegian.

On the knife subject you guys got me motivated to try out a Spyderco so I ordered one and it should be in tomorrow, you guys are horrible influences.

Я любил бы некоторую водку прямо сейчас. Все еще имейте еще три часа работы и может также закончить с некоторой водкой, известью, и содой.

How's that? :clap2: Man Russian looks tough - all I can really see are a bunch of symbols and backwards letters. :bear_cry: Wouldn't mind learning it someday, though... that and Latin.

In the meantime, on topic, get yourself a Ka-Bar! :coolbeer:

It only looks tough,it`s very easy to read.I could teach anyone in about an hour how to read it but the grammar is horrendous like Finnish etc.
